Chapter Three: The Discovery

Lila and the shadow spent the night together, by the pond in the forest. They talked, and learned more about each other. They laughed, and enjoyed each other's company. They cuddled, and comforted each other. They made love, and fulfilled each other.

They discovered each other, and themselves.

Lila learned that the shadow's name was Zane, and that he was the last of his kind. He told her how his people, the shadows, had once lived peacefully in the forest, until the starlights came and took their lands. He told her how his people had fought back, but were outnumbered and overpowered. He told her how his people had been hunted and killed, until only he remained. He told her how he had survived, alone and bitter, until he met her.

Zane learned that Lila's name was Lila, and that she was the daughter of the king. She told him how her people, the starlights, had come from the stars, looking for a new home. She told him how her people had found the forest, and thought it was empty. She told him how her people had built the city of Luminar, and lived happily there. She told him how her people had defended themselves, unaware and afraid, until they met him.

They realized that their people had been enemies, but they were not. They realized that their people had been ignorant, but they were not. They realized that their people had been wrong, but they were not.

They realized that they were different, but they were the same.

They realized that they were the Starlight and the Shadow, but they were also Lila and Zane.

They realized that they were in love, and they were happy.

They did not know what the future would bring, or what their people would think. They did not know if they could be together, or if they had to part. They did not know if they could change anything, or if they had to accept everything.

They did not know anything, except that they loved each other.

They loved each other, and they were hopeful.
