Chapter Two: The Conversation

Lila and the shadow remained still, staring at each other. They did not know how long they stayed like that, but it felt like an eternity. They did not hear the sounds of the forest, or feel the chill of the night. They only felt each other.

Lila was the first to break the silence. She spoke in a soft and trembling voice.

"Who are you?"

The shadow did not answer. He did not know what to say. He did not know why he did not kill her, or why he felt this way.

Lila repeated her question, louder and more urgently.

"Who are you? What are you doing here? What do you want from me?"

The shadow finally found his voice. He spoke in a low and harsh tone.

"I am your enemy. I am here to kill you. I want your light."

Lila felt a pang of fear, but also a flicker of curiosity. She asked him another question.

"Why? Why do you hate me? Why do you want to kill me? Why do you want my light?"

The shadow felt a surge of anger, but also a trace of doubt. He answered her with a question of his own.

"Why? Why do you love me? Why do you not fear me? Why do you share your light?"

Lila felt a shock of surprise, but also a warmth of affection. She answered him with a truth.

"I don't know. I don't know why I love you, or why I don't fear you, or why I share my light. I just do. I just feel it."

The shadow felt a confusion of emotions, but also a clarity of thought. He realized something.

"So do I. I don't know why I love you, or why I don't hate you, or why I want your light. I just do. I just feel it."

They looked at each other again, and saw something new. They saw understanding, acceptance, and compassion. They saw love.

They moved closer, and reached for each other. They touched, and felt a spark. They embraced, and felt a warmth. They kissed, and felt a bliss.

They forgot everything else, and remembered only this.

They remembered love.
